Alternative Ways of Sharing Identity Information

The Better Business Bureau is finally taking reality into consideration and suggesting businesses, schools and health providers find a better way of identifying employees, students and patients.

With Social Security fraud at all time highs the BBS advices folks who are being asked for their Social Security numbers by the above identities to inquire under what law that information is required and to seek alternative methods of identification.  A driver’s permit works just fine, as well as the last four digits of your social.

Better Business Bureau President and CEO, Michelle L. Corey says, “Identify thieves are ready to pounce on information they can use to create new accounts to steal money from consumers and business.”  She goes to add, “Although some businesses have the right to your Social Security number, many don’t need that information.”
